FAQ
Questions we've received, or expect to receive, or made up ourselves.
What is this site, really?
A personal tracker for the weekly specials at Cabalar — a butcher shop turned burger bar in Lancaster, PA. We go most weeks, we have opinions, and we built a website about it. This is that website.
Who is Tom, and why does he have his own list?
Tom is the author of this site. He has ordered the Cabalar weekly special almost religiously since the summer of 2021 — that's 270+ orders and north of $6,000 spent in the name of the craft. His list is his personal ranking of the best specials he's eaten. You may disagree with it. You would be wrong.
Why do I need to sign in just to vote?
Without accounts, nothing stops one very passionate birria enthusiast from casting 10,000 votes for their favorite special. We're giving everyone a fair shot — a small allotment of votes to spread across the specials they actually love. Sign in once, vote responsibly.
What information do you collect from my Google account?
Your name and email address. That's it. We use your email to identify your account so your votes stay yours and don't get mixed up with someone else's. We are not building a profile on you. We do not want to build a profile on you. We are sandwich aficionados, not data brokers.
Will you sell my data or send me marketing emails?
Absolutely not. The only newsletter we'd ever consider sending is "The Birria is Back" and we haven't built that yet either.
Who can see my votes?
Community totals are public — that's the whole point of the leaderboard. Your individual vote breakdown is only visible to you on your My Top 10 page.
Why can't I just vote anonymously?
We tried. It lasted about five minutes before we realized anonymous voting is basically an open invitation for chaos. One account, one vote pool. It's the honor system, enforced by Google.
